Talk to me about Sofas

Me and my DH have been shopping for sofas.

We're thinking of leather sofa, and 2 elegant fabric chairs (with nice complementing pattern).

This is what my DH has seen and loves:

He wants it in recliner. V comfy. I like a more elegant style, but they dont tend to be recliner. Also DH works much harder than I do, and earns much more money. I think I should let him have a say. The chairs will be a different make (go bargain shopping for them).

My mum thinks it would look nicer in capri cream, rather than capri oak (our initial thoughts)).

The sofa takes about 12 weeks to arrive, so we'd go chair shopping in new year.

Anybody have any pretty pictures to show me of mismatched furniture. Or views on the sofa?

personally & please don'tbe offended but I think the sofa looks really dated & I would go for a far simpler, more elegant one

Blimey, it's a bit pipe and slippers.

I don't like that sort of thing but sofas is personal taste and a lot of men choose comfort over style even though you can have both! It looks dated and over powering

I think it is very ugly - sorry. But it's your house, so you should choose what you like and bugger people's views on here.

Sorry but it really is horrid.

Fabric sofas are much nicer!

I like leather sofas, but elegant, modern-looking ones. What do you think of the one your DH has chosen?

Furniture is a personal thing. But (for the right reasons, honestly) you should know that is really awful and in no way will you be able to make a room look stylish.
Reclining sofa? the only people who had recliners were my grandparents (and Joey on Friends)... not great company to be in.
Sorry OP but I'd have to put my foot down, even if he were Richard Branson!

I don't like it. But I think he works so hard, and was so excited by it, I didnt like to rule it out.

We sat on the elegant sofas, of my choosing, and they were admittedly not as comfy. We have not bought for now, but going to look further.

The thing about sofas - the more streamlined and elegant they look, the less comfy they are, and vice versa. And very few companies bother to upholster onto a frame nowadays - they just use big cushions to make the back padding of the sofa, which constantly need plumping or propping.

I realise that isn't very helpful ... Blush

Thanks mumsnut. You are right, it was a case of big cushions.

I think I'd rather go for a super comfortable sofa rather than stylish. I think with some nice accent chairs. We've only ever had family cast off sofas before.

DH has agreed not to have a recliner sofa, as it makes the sofas bigger / less attractive.

I've checked and the G plan sofa is a hardwood frame, and all properly sprung. Perhaps thats why DH liked it so much.
