Swarowski rings

Would like to get a ring for wearing every day as present from DP next birthday. Had a look in Swarowski today and saw a band with lots of crystals in, and two bands, one with white and one with black crystals. Love them both! My question is - would Swarowski rings be suitable for wearing every day? i.e. do they tarnish? Are they hard-wearing enough? I'm not planning on washing the dishes with them on or anything but would like to know if they are a dress-ring-only type of jewellery
Thanks!

I've got two of the chunky all crystal ones, and they are lovely - but the metal 'ring' part inside the crystal made my finger go green, so maybe get it treated if you do get one. What I will say is swarovski are great for repairs etc within the two year guarantee (replacing lost stones etc) and give you a new guarantee card with each repair.

Ooh that's good to know - thanks Ambernj1. How would I go about getting it treated?

Hello, I'm a jeweller thought i'd give you some info...!
If the ring is turning your finger green it is either because the ring is not silver or it has a high nickel content. Easiest way to check for this is to look for the 925 sterling silver hallmark.

Swarovski crystals are not really suitable for everyday wear and tear. They are quite brittle and so will crack with force. Also handwashing and the oils from your hands can cause them to dull down.
Hope this is some use to you!
The good news is that the crystals don't cost a lot to replace. The bad news is that often the jewellery is very fiddly- this pushes up the cost of the repair itself. Also if it isn't silver- it will cost more to repair than to get a new one.

The only 'treatments' that there are for silver is either for it to be polished or to be given a rhodium plating- rhodium plating is what makes your brand new jewellery look so shiny a lot of the time. Unfortunately, swarovski can not withstand this process so you can count that out.

If it's not silver- there's a billion different 'remedie' for the green finger issue. But the best and most effective is a coating of clear nail varnish on the metal.

That's excellent bethelbeth, thank you so much. May get DP to shell out for some white gold instead Grin

That's what I like to hear Wink

If you'd like an opinion feel free to message me on here. I can't bear the thought of folk paying silly prices for jewellery when it's not worth it!
