Emu oil - user report

After reading about emu oil on Mumsnet I thought I'd give it a go. It is starting to make a difference, my hair definitely looks thicker, especially at the front which was starting to look a little thin.

The only issue I've had is with the scalp massage butter, I leave it in overnight but it is tricky to wash out in the morning, even if I am sure I have washed it all out I find that when I dry my hair there is often a streak of grease.

Overall, I would recommend the range.

Good to know WGC. Since having ds2 I've been staring at my hair in the mirror alot and worrying it's looking a little thin. Mil had the classic 'balding' thing starting at the front. She went to a trichologist in London and has been putting hormone drops on her scalp every night for about a year. Her hair us full thick and shiny now. Does cost about £30 a month for the drops but I tells ya if it happens to me I'm off to Philip kingsley pronto!

Tamdin - did the trichologist say what was causing the thinning? I had alopecia a couple of years ago but only three small bald spots at the back of the head. I don't think the frontal thinning is alopecia.

It would be good to know the names of specialists if it comes back.

I think she said female pattern baldness(starts at the front but spreads) is hormone related and is usually triggered by stress.
I could ask mil in more detail though if needs be. The drops are definitely oestrogen based because when mil had breast cancer she had to check with her consultant that it was ok to carry on taking them. He said yes!

It's good to know that there is help out there. I see so many women with very thin balding hair who obviously don't know about the treatment. Not available on nhs so obviously not everyone could afford it either.

Euphemia - it comes from the pads of fat on their backs. It is also used in creams for muscles.

euphemia my other half calls it "bird fat", as in "Are you rubbing that smelly bird fat on your hair again?" and then goes into a save-the-emu rant.
