Blended family out of sync - feeling strange.

So after Christmas arrangements my dcs are now with us the opposite weekend to dss. It's only for January dps ex has agreed to swap so we are back in sync in Feb.

This weekend we have just dss. It's a bit of a nightmare tbh. dss is clearly missing my kids. He doesn't know what to do with himself apart from look at a screen. He won't sit still at the dinner table. Didn't want to go to bed as he didn't want to be in the room on his own. Strange cos when we first moved in together in September, the kids wanted their own parent to themselves. Now they are lost without each other.

We had exactly the same - DD and my DHs DS became inseparable and were like little lost lambs when the weekends became offset, even though we'd always made sure there was 1:1 time with each parent too.

Fortunately, the bond fizzled out when my DD moved up to Secondary school - otherwise shed be even more devastated by the recent events (we no longer see DHs DS at all).

Enjoy it while it lasts Smile

We get that. EOW my two are off at their dad's but DSC are here every weekend. DSS (11) is definitely a bit lost when mine aren't around as his older siblings are getting a bit teenager and not much wanting to play with him. Right now he's playing happily with my two on the Xbox, and talking like a normal 11 year old boy. When mine aren't here he regresses into being the baby of the family, talks constantly in a baby voice (which amazingly DP doesn't appear to notice!) and acts like a bored toddler sometimes. I prefer it when we have all the DCs together.

Older DSC have more of their own lives and don't so much mind if mine are her or not.

This is encouraging! I have read so many stepchildren nightmares on here, that it is a relief to be reminded that blended families do form bonds and enjoy each others company. Thank you for the thread.
