I hope this is the right section so apologies if not. I am 15 weeks pregnant and also have a 7 yo daughter. I've been with my partner for a year and this wasn't at all planned, but we are both feeling very positive and happy after a month of hiccups and getting used to the idea. My question is, when telling my daughter, do we both tell her, or is it something I should do by myself? She does get on very well with my dp, we spend time together at weekends and eventually we will live together, most likely shortly before or after the baby is born. I think my dd will be thrilled by the news as she adores her younger brother, but I don't know how to approach this. I do wonder if I should do it alone in case she has any questions, or if it's wiser for dp and I to put on a united front iyswim? What would you do?

Hi, I think I would be tempted to tell her together, in a very positive way. Hopefully she will catch on with the positivity. I think if you tell her in a sort of 'delicate' way there is a risk that she will assume it is a potentially worrying thing.

So I would say 'isn't it brill, you're going to be a big sis, we are really excited to share this with you, you're fab, this baby so lucky to have you' and hope she catches on.

Then just keep an eye out for any negative/upset response in case it does come.

Congrats on the preganancy and best of luck!

Thanks chelen, I think you're right, we have only just started tellign people and the fact we've been positive when doing so has made all the difference I think. I have the scan picture to show her, I might tell her she can have it, she has one framed in her room of her 12 week scan :) Dp's mum is looking after them for an hour tomorrow so I'll see if she'd like to show her too :)

We told dss that I was pregnant together. It felt very right to do so - because we were saying we were all a family. He cheered. I would tell her together - there will be plenty of time for you and her to have one-on-one chats about it.

Am currently 7 wks myself - DSS1 worked it out 2 weeks ago when DP said that we need a bigger house (DP was getting boys ready to go to their mother's - I was in work).

Boys have been fairly quiet on the whole thing, but they were both impressed/grossed out by the pregnancy week-by-week pictures I found on the BBC site to show them.

Congratulations!

We told DSDs together and made sure they were the first ones to know - and told them that too. I was very honest with them and said i was very nervous as i didn't know how they would react, but hoped they would be excited. Their reaction was spot on - absolutely lovely. They adore their brother - even if one of them currently hates my DH!
