In ds1's (4) nursery report (ASD nursery unit) it said that he knows the name of colours and farm animals. I was quite doubtful of suprised by this so I asked in his communication book how they would know this as he is completely non verbal. The answer I got was that he uses his PECS to exchange for the colour/animal he wants [deep sigh]. This was from the expert teacher in Autism (expert of 13 years, no less). Am now currently trying not to knaw my arm off at the crapness of it all.

To explain PECS symbol for red is infact red etc, for horse is picture of horse. So he is simply matching the colours/pictures not knowing the names at all.
