Second paed appt...what a palaver!

Tom (5) was verbally dx with HFA on his first visit to a paed, then he saw a SALT who said his eye contact was good, reasoning etc all fine or above average for his age, but mentioned delayed echolalia and his licking of things and stimming... just been to see his new paed who said he's not had the report back from SALT yet and without that he can't even begin to make a diagnosis. I told him roughly what SALT report said and he said that if his eye contact is good then it can't be autism.
I also told him I wanted some melatonin as Tom is such a poor sleeper and is regularly awake at 1.30/2.30 am. He said he wants him to see a child psychologist first before he'll consider prescribing it. Jesus! It just feels like such a wasted appointment. And I'm ridiculously upst that he's not prescribed the melatonin...I'm getting to the point where I can't handle him being around me all the time, and if only he would sleep at night that would at least give me a break.
I'm also mega stressed cos Tom licked a wall on the way back from the hospital and it looked like someone had puked on it. I'm not happy.
