ADHD on Statement is it important to ask for it to be added?

The above says it all really........... I have Wilfs annual review next Monday and i have asked for them to consider adding ADHD to his list of Special Ed Needs........ I will post this in Special Education as well.Has anyone else asked for this and i need some reasons to back me up. I am going to contact his psychiatrist tomorrow and ask him to fax something to school for me! Thanks.

There shouldn't be a problem adding it and I agree that it's important that the Statement is up to date with his list of needs.

I always do a written report with a section headed something like Amendments needed and then go through Part 1 - no change Part 2 - change fifth bullet point to blah blah.

J's Statement has been in place for nearly 4 years and has been amended about 9 times. There has never been any argument over amending anything except for Part 3 in terms of how many hours of support he gets. The dx updates have been done without argument, though they will need an official written report confirming the dx before they will add it. Hope the review goes well!

We have added all DS's diagnoses at his statement review - even the epilepsy which doesn't specifically effect him at school. The statement is not a full or accurate description of your DS without it, and I cannot see it being a problem.

The main reason, if you're looking for one, is that ALL the difficulties should be listed in Part 2 of the Statement, so that should included ADHD if you have had a formal dx of that condition.

Only when all the difficulties are listed in Part 2, can Part 3 accurately relfelct the level of support he requires.

Another reason is that all those who teach him should read his statement and be aware of his difficulties, so if ADHD is missing then some of his behaviours could be put down to wilful naughtiness rather than a dx'd condition he has littel / no control over.

Agree with the others. We added ASD to ds statement part 2 at its first review (with a copy of the specialist report giving this Dx). It was straight forward.
