Am really confused with everything now. ds1 was sick on mon and school called to ask me to pick hm up, so i did and he was fine when he got home-didnt seem ill at all but thought maybe hed been sick and got it out of his system.
Anyway, today school called again, hed been sick again. I went down and brought him home and sat down and chatted with him about it.
ran through all possibilities-have you got frinds-yes, do they let you play with them-yes? is something at home worrying you?-no, is it school?-yes, what is it you dont like?-i dont know......were you feeling poorly?-no, did you have tummy ache?-no- then he told me that he had stuck his fingers in his mouth to make himself sick-I nearly fell on the floor-how on earth would a 4.10yr old know how to do this?
Later on, he said that it was the noise of people in assembly that he hated

I got home and rang the private OT whome is a specialist in austic spectrum/sensory issues etc and she was brill, told me ring LEA and tell them hes being sent home and is making himself sick, rang them and they logged my call and told me to get in contact with gp-have managed to get appt for tues and asked for him to be reffered to CAMHS.
She also told me to get in contact with the school and ask them to get the senco to do a statutory assessment.

Rang school and senco rang me and said that they would get an educational psychiatrist to seem him. I said so can you do a satutory assessment pls?
she said "I dont think we are going to go down that route because hes not showing any symptoms of anything at school"!?!wtf?

out of all people i thought shed be the most understanding, but instead she made me feel as if im doing something horribly wrong and Im imagening his behaviour or something, i shocked but i am going to pursue this with them tommorrow.

So sorry to hear this. You can ask the local authority to assess him directly. You have the right to request the assessment as a parent. It's good to have the school on board if possible though.

Pursue this with school.

If your son is not already under the care of a developmental paed your GP can refer you to such a person. It may be wise to follow this route as well as CAMHS - sometimes CAMHS are not all that great.

Put in the request for the Statutory assessment yourself; you know its been done then and you as the parent can appeal if the LEA say no to assessment. School cannot do this, besides which the SENCO is just being obstructive.

www.ipsea.org.uk is a useful website and there are model letters you can use.

It may be that longer term you will need to find another school if the school staff are not accommodating or can actually help your son with regards to his additional support needs.

You are your son's best and only advocate. No-one else is better placed than you to fight his corner for him.
