dd has beenon gf/cf diet for a month now. Noticing very little difference at the minute - maybe a little clearer in expressing herself at times but that's about it and her sleep is worse. Last night she went to bed at 7.00 and didn't go to sleep until 9.45!!!!! Anyone tell me what differneces they saw and how quickly? Thanks

thanks hecate - so would you saya month is too early to see any real signs? I haven't had her tested and as she's been cf/gf free for a month would it be able to be done now? Thanks for the update really helpful. Hope your dc's continue to progress.

No, you're right. If you are going to have tests, you shouldn't go gluten free until AFTER you have sent off the sample! They won't be able to tell you anything now. Which is a shame because if they came back positive, you can get goods free on prescription from the GP. - and gf stuff is bloody expensive!!

How soon can you see a difference? Depends on the child. ds1 in particular actually got a lot worse in the short term! Ds2 blossomed straight away and then about 6 weeks later turned into a MONSTER! and then came out of it and is much more communicative now. And although changes can be massive, they can also be small and when you live it day in day out, sometimes you don't see gradual changes!

Make notes about how she is now - and how you can remember she was a month ago, while it's still all fresh, then you can compare more accurately.

DS5 (2.1yrs) has been CF for 3wks now. There has been a huge difference in him. Hes generally a lot happier, hes more alert, more deliberate (not so dazed) has slightly more energy, and has almost stopped self harming. We noticed a difference within a week. Plan to go GF in a couple of weeks. Dietician advised. HTH XXX

Just filled in the questionnaire to send off to Uni of Sunderland after reading threads on MN. I'm new to this ASD business and had no clue until reading on MN how much diet could affect symptoms. Having completely removed fruit squash from DS1's diet in the past 10 days (naively thought the one i was buying was ok given no added sugars, colours etc but failed to realise the other nasties in there!) and saw improvement straightaway, definitely within 24 hours. One week on, interaction and eye contact are tons better and we've had lots of shared attention this week too plus interest in his baby brother.
Am definitely going to try CF and GF free diets too, and look forward to test results and a bit of guidance. There's another thread on here which has some great info on GF free products and where to get them (started by Deepthoughts I think.) which has really helped me.

KT: i noticed only yesterday the problems you speak of with the fruit juice! I thought 'robinsons' would be safe too!!! aparently not! we are currently working on cutting that out too, and sticking it on the 'offensive' food items list!
