Does anyone's child use a weighted blanket?

DD has ADHD and is having trouble settling to sleep.

I've seen a lot about weighted blankets and how they can help those with ASD, ADHD etc get to sleep.

Has anyone had any success with one? I've seen a few on Ebay that look ok. They seem to range a lot in price though and some are £££! I don't want to spend too much because there's no guarantee that DD will actually use it or whether it will work.

I guess if she won't use it I'll have a picnic or beach blanket that will never blow away. 😂

Our DS is 9, has ASD and ADHD and sensory needs, he likes to throw himself onto the bed/ couch and likes to feel pressure so we thought we'd give one a go. We brought one for him over Christmas and it's made a big difference. Bedtimes in the run up to Christmas were hard, he literally couldn't sit/lie still and was very agitated. This stopped the night we got the blanket and has continued to help since. I wasn't sure it would work but it really does clam him down.

I've not tried one for DD yet but I have just discovered that we have a local SEN group that lends them our for a couple of weeks. I'm hoping to try that soon.

You might have a local group that does the same. Could be worth some Facebook detective work.

DD2 uses one - she's got dyspraxia and sensory difficulties. My mum made hers - just got some old duvet covers from the charity shop and sewed it basically into columns and then across into squares putting weighted pellets in each box if that makes sense.

I then bought myself one (expensive off the net) for my anxiety and it's amazing for that - trouble is the kids keep on deciding to join me under it!

I just bought one for my DD who has DCD and anxiety - she calls it her "huggy" blanket, and absolutely loves it, and seems to be sleeping well with it so far. Now the problem is she wants the bigger sized one as she's complaining her toes stick out the bottom of the smaller sized one we got!

I ordered one off Ebay last night for DD. She seems quite excited by the idea of it so fingers crossed it helps improve bedtime a bit.
