Do Gro-Clocks work for older children with ADHD?

I have an 8yo DS with ADHD. He gets up when he wakes up, which is far too early for me! It also means that he's averaging 8 hours a night, which is affecting his behaviour. Would a Gro-Clock teach him to stay in bed?

I'd say it depends on how good he is at following rules. Our DS is 8 and has ADHD and ASD. He use to have one when he was younger , it worked initially but not for long. We got to the point where if the sun wasn't up and there were only 1 or 2 stars left he'd still get up because it was nearly time to get up anyway!

Hmm I see I may have a problem. The safeguarding officer at school observed that he needs to be told something 100 times before it sinks in, but then it never leaves. Can I stand possibly 100 mornings of "Back to bed until Ollie the owl's awake?"

Our boys exactly the same, with added rigidity due to his ASD. Once he's awake everyone's awake. He's always been an earlier rise but touch wood it does seem to have gotten better over the last few months so there is hope! Good luck.

Consider one of its competitors if he can tell the time to some extent. We had one called an Onaroo - I think they're discontinued now - but it had a normal clock and a light that turned green instead of stars disappearing. Alternatively, a plug socket timer and some fairy lights or another decorative lamp will do a similar job without the outlay, and the fact it's so simple might work in your favour. When we did it with a much younger child, we started the light coming on around the time the child actually woke (5.15 I think!) so it was easy and they started with lots of success, then we gradually moved the waking time later, 5 mins every few days. It was a long term project but so worth it.

100 mornings of telling him might be worth it. And it might only be 20 days.
