Hi

Me again

DS1 has been diagnosed with Dyspraxia and we have known for quite some time.

He falls over a lot hurting himself, thinks when he plays with friends and they all run around they run away from him, thinks if he plays with someone they must only play with him etc.

He is a lovely wee boy and likes to make friends but becomes very upset with them. He is struggling too with his Tae Kwon Do, school work

He has Low muscle tone too .

We want to explain to him that he is a bit more special and will take a bit longer to do things/reach milestones etc but not sure how.

Does anyone have any advice for us please?

TIA

Jambuttie

Is there anything he is good at , reading perhaps ? When I explained to ds one day that some kids find it really hard to read, can't "see" the letters correctly, put them together and make sense, just as he struggles to coordinate himself at football thinkingg out the processes involved too slowly to react in time , it seemed a revelation .

thanks Liz for your reply

Yes he loves reading/being read too.

He is only 5 and thinks its fab that he can read a little and he gets much praise and encouragement to do this.

Thankx again

Try the Dyspraxia Foundation - lots of advice for parent and schools, and they may have leaflets or a booklist for children.

They have a website, and there are often local support groups associated with it.
