Just had an email from my sons school into the results of a WRIT assessment they have done with him.

They have picked up that he has problems with the following.
Impulsivity and lack of attention.
Receptive and expression language/ skills problems.
Struggled to use problem solving strategies.
Problems with visual motor co ordination and attention to detail.
Word knowledge and expressing himself verbally,
The problems with impulsivity has been noted 6 times across the 2 page report.
Reading age of 7 - he is 13.
Salt have already picked up on his lack of vocabulary and word knowledge.

I need to reply to school but I’m not sure on what areas,
Should I be asking now for the ed pay to be brought in. I’m stuck. Thanks

I would ask for a meeting, to establish how you are all going to move forwards.
Clearly school need to be differentiating for him and putting some plans in place.
One of the questions you could ask would be if he is likely to need to see the Ed Psych, and when that might happen.
What support will he get - what will this look like?
Is he likely to need an EHC Plan ?
Will they be able to make adjustments when he gets to public exam stage ? Are there adjustments that need to be made as part of their 'usual practice'?

It does sound as if he needs to see an Ed Psych and possible referral to a paediatrician/ speech therapy. Eg to look at the possibility of specific learning difficulties/dyspraxia/speech and language disorder etc. I'd push for this.

Things over the weekend have taken an unexpected turn. So Friday afternoon I recieved an email stating that they had done a WRIT assessment and the report was included. The report uses the word impulsivity 5 times over 1.5 pages. The recommendations set out for things at home to help are things that we have been doing with him for the last 7 yrs. so still nothing new. Shows his levels are at 7yr 10 month. - he is 13yrs 2 month old. It also confirms that he has a significant SLCN. Then on sat in the post Iv recieved a form V4 specialist provision referral form.

This all seems very weird to me. Why are they e-mailing and posting things without even having a meeting with you ?

I really don’t know. Iv sent 2 emails in the last week to request a formal meeting with his head of year, his form teacher and the senco, Iv also requested that they now look at bringing in the edu psych. But in the reply I got half of the things I’d put in the email have been totally ignored and I’m still no closer in getting a meeting. ( feel like I’m banging my head against a brick wall)
