Dyspraxia? yet not clumsy / and is sporty

Could you please offer me some advice on dyspraxia?
Long history of being within the system on nhs but no dx as I think Dd is just hard to place.
However I am now wondering if dyspraxia plays a part but although reading some bits is like a light bulb other bits do not fit.

Dd has had an ot assessment and has hyper mobility so has trouble with fine motor skills - needs different pencil cutlery etc. Also said she has trouble crossing the midline and lack of dominant side amongst other things

Dd has trouble sleeping - has to have melatonin to settle and has wakefulness
Trouble processing information (although when assessed by ep has an exceptional processing speed) but often says to me "I don't understand what you are saying"

Low working memory
Mild dyslexia (undiagnosed but I know it)
Anxiety
Low frustration threshold emotional outbursts (often thinks things in her head and can be rigid when they don't go as expected or planned in her mind)

She flaps when excited and likes to lie on her back and flap fast with her mouth open

Gets bored easily cannot wait for things - unless she is hyper focussing on something and then she is fine!

Also she is so tired all the time- does take vitamin d tablets but is worn out and the. Her behaviour gets worse!

I have a pead app next week and I need to get some answers / move along with this.

Can anyone help?

It isn't a one size fits all condition. Dyspraxia overlaps with many other Splds so it is possible to have dyspraxic traits but a different ultimate diagnosis. Hopefully a paed will clarify things for you.

Been going round in circles though as they seem to want a clear cut child, could this be dyspraxia or am I off the mark? I wondered Asperger before but it hasn't quite fit

Our DD is ASD SPD APD hypermobile all diagnosed.

Her brother DS is dyspraxic and also has mild undiagnosed but obvious APD SPD

My DH their dad is ASD

All branches of the same tree, just their own unique mix

From what you say, I would tend more towards aspergers; dyspraxia and aspergers overlap quite a bit. But certainly don't take anything from me. Have you had an OT assessment? I can understand how frustrating it is (been there fore five years). Hopefully as your dd is now older your paed can give you more answers.

She sounds similar to my DD in many ways. I first suspected dyspraxia but cahms are assessing for asd (aspergers)

She fits many traits of both. It's confusing

The flapping sounds like gross motor stereotypy, which is often (but not always) associated with autism.

I have suspected Aspergers but she had been through assessments twice now and they said no she has anxiety.
I started looking at dyspraxia after the ot report.
I'm so confused and frustrated by the whole thing!
Yesturday Dd kicked my son in the head and punched my husband when she woke up ! This was because she woke with a plan in her mind (to go to the living room alone and watch her tv) which was scuppered as we all woke and got up together. She was screaming get into bed now, don't go into the living room! Yes anxious but so much more.
This behaviour isn't right for an 8 and half year old surely :(

Were the previous asd assessments done by people who were familiar with the subtleties of how it presents in females? It's easy to assume all professionals know this but from what I gather on these boards that isn't always the case.

The problem is when I question I hit a brick wall and they say how professional they are and that they know what they are talking about etc. I may have to put a case together to go to the dr for funding to lorna wing (I think that may be best option? I know there is gosh and daphne keen too)

A local mum here asked for a 2nd opinion from GOSH after similar experiences to you. Her DD got Asperger's diagnosis from GOSH that the local service couldn't get to as girls don't fit the stereotypes. Have a look on Tony Attwood's site and then ask CAMHS to refer you on for a 2nd opinion. Be prepared to keep phoning them up regularly to "encourage" them along and complain in writing with all the evidence of ASD in girls to them if they don't. Good luck

My DD didn't seem a likely candidate for dyspraxia (still undiagnosed as we speak) but when we went to an event which included dyspraxia specialists, they said she was heavily suggestive of it. All the bits we had read and thought didn't fit she had successfully covered up. Was she bashing into things and coming home covered in bruises? No. But then again, did she ever play gross motor games? No. She has learned from an early age to move slowly, avoid sports, play simple games. Even as a toddler she was the one who sat still and played a fine motor game for hours while the other toddlers were running, jumping and cavorting about. She wasn't falling off things because she wasn't getting on things.

What will come out of all this we aren't sure, but just wanted to say that just because some descriptors appear to be missing doesn't mean it can't be dyspraxia. Some things may require an assessment process to flush them out, as girls in particular are very quick to assess their own strengths and weaknesses and simply make a mental list of what they won't do. Then they don't "fail" at it and nobody is looking at them wondering why they can't do this yet.

I haven't got the energy to type what an awful visit with the peaditrican was today! Head and banging on the table!
I need to go private and fast so I may start another thread about where to go best for Dd... I can't do this anymore!
