Re Dragon in exams for a university student

Am posting this here as well as SEN education. DS! is at university studying a subject with lots of writing involved, it was his choice, in fairness he's absolutely passionate about it and for the first time in his life he's actually doing really well. But he's very bright IQ well in excess of 140 and very articulate but much to the fascination if every ed psych he's ever seen has a very significant processing problem (bottom 3% at best) and poor working memory (bottom 10%) so he has very significant self esteem problems, can't follow verbal instructions but most problematically when it comes to education he physically can't write (2-3 words a minute of unintelligible scrawl), he "types" everything but he's still endlessly frustrated. For years we've been trying to get him to use dragon, he's ignored us, he now has a girlfriend who's persuaded him to try it once and lo and behold he loves it and he found it so much easier shock.
I've been told in the past he can't use it for exams (when he most needs it because he finds exams very stressful thus further hindering him) because you need to use a "clean" computer and therefore dragon won't recognise your speech pattern because it's not learnt too. Does this make sense? I'm not computer literate. A few months ago someone I think on MN told me that now it or a similar speech recognition programe is so good that you can use it in exams and it doesn't have to have learnt your speech patterns.
Does anyone know anything about this? His university who are meant to be very SEN friendly are still saying he can't use it because of this. DS1 is now so inspired by Dragon he's prepared to actually stand up for himself and be more forceful about how it could help him if it was suitable. Just to add he would use a scribe but he finds this not as easy because he's brain is teeming with ideas and it's so hard to change things with a scribe.

I'm afraid I don't know but will ask DS who also uses Dragon what the set-up is for his exams and report back.

I did ask DS, he didn't know if you could use Dragon, he's having a scribe and extra time (his hand writing is unintelligible). I asked about Dragon but he's used to having a scribe and didn't want to change things.

I believe you can download your Dragon 'speech profile' onto a 'clean' computer suitable for use in exams. Example If the uni SEN dept have no idea about this, would it be worth contacting dragon???
