Non verbal dd at 5

Just looking for a bit of light at the end of the tunnel really. Dd is 5 and is still non verbal. There is some echolalia, but very little and not always clear.
I wonder if anyone else had dc who were non verbal at that age and did they eventually start to talk? If so, at roughly what age?
She is in the process of being assessed for ASD.
thanks

Hi there I completely know what you are going through. Its a very dark time with all that uncertainty. My ds is nearly 5 and just started putting short sentences together ( although language rather disordered but even so making good progress). Less than a year ago he was non verbal and then we started ABA (hired a tutor) and it all changed!!!! It's the best thing that has happened to him and he's like a different child. I would totally recommend it to anyone who has non verbal kids. Please don't feel alone. There's plenty of support on this forum :-)

Ds was pretty much non verbal at 5, some echolalia, occasional odd words. He progressed quickly from five and at seven he was using sentences. By eleven he had normalish speech.
He was diagnosed with autism at three and unofficially from 2 and a half, he's eighteen now has selective mutism at times, finds conversation stressful, can't ask questions but if you hear him talking about football or F1 to his Dad or his brothers you probably wouldn't guess he had any difficulties.

DS started talking at 5, he was diagnosed with ASD at 2.5. I thought he was always going to be non-verbal. He is nearly 11 now and although he is very obviously autistic he can tell us what he wants/needs and is easily understood. He does have echolalia, and is very repetitive focussed on whatever he is obsessed with (currently the weather and maps) so it can be hard to get him to answer questions without him veering off onto those subjects.

My dd(6),is non verbal & has a type of CP,Worster Drought Syndrome. It took me 2 years to get her dx'd as there are only a couple of specialists in WDS in the UK.
