Speech and language advice please, percentiles?

Does anyone know why I can find out what these percentiles are? And what speech and language abilities are needed for a child to be in a certain percentile.

If SaLT assessment has been done, whoever did it needs to tell you what they mean, in a way that makes sense for you. Centiles can seem low but be within normal limits. My SaLT expressed results as '3 standard deviations below the mean' (ie severe difficulty), which, as a relative score, is easier to interpret. Can you go back and ask the assessor to explain the results?

We've not had a formal assessment yet, despite having S&L involvement.

so you have not yet been given any percentiles in relation to your little one?

OP, the only way to find out on which percentiles your child is speech and language wise is a Salt assessment.

S&L in my area is crap lacking. I was just wondering what puts the child on a certain percentile.

A speech and language school advised that admissions was based (in part) on the child being below the 1st percentile.
This was the 1st I'd heard of percentiles.
But so far our S&LT has been unable to formally assess as the child in question hasn't been at the stage to follow instructions to be able to be formally assessed (but has been observed).

Er FSR your S&L service sounds particularly shoddy if they are saying the child cannot be assessed. What rot!

Sadly my experience of NHS SaLT was not good either. It was a waste of time, frankly. We engaged private SaLT and it was the best thing we ever did (although it cost £££).

Right, how's this...

" I am writing to officially request that my daughter ##, whom has been known to ## S&LT service since #/#/#, have her speech, language and communication skills formally assessed and a report of these results completed and a relevant therapy plan written.

I have great concerns about the current lack of S&LT involvement with, and lack of provision for, ###, and also request that her case be reviewed as a matter of urgency"

Not sure if the last paragraph is likely to rub them up the wrong way or kick them up the butt. intention is to kick them up the butt

Should I also cc in other involved professionals?
