Everything's falling apart - what options do we have?

School have said they can't meet needs and most staff there appear to have just given up now. Ds incredibly anxious and getting worse daily (made worse by a recent exclusion that could and should have been avoided). Sm is being amended ready for secondary and we have to name a school but there is nothing locally to meet his needs so we are trying to find something in neighbouring counties although ds won't travel in a taxi,bus,whatever on his own. Can't home ed or have him off sick as I have to work fulltime and dh has serious health issues so he can't cope. Have considered requesting an emergency placement for ds but if there's nothing locally where does he go? Really don't think he can cope there much longer. School keep asking if we've named a school yet as they clearly want him out asap. Don't know what to do for the best . Have told LA that his health is suffering by being at that school but they said they're waiting for us to name a school too. Apparently they have 'some idea's' about placement but can't give us any hints at all. We are visiting a school soon (will have to be residential) which may meet needs but what if it doesn't? Any advice appreciated.

Sorry that you are having such a tough time. I think there is a list of residential special schools that you need to get hold of and then start visiting them and seeing if they can meet your son's needs.

Are there are local parents who can advise you? Good luck in your search.

You've probably done it already, but what about Parent Partnership?

They may be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the support. vjg there is no other child like ds in county so no support groups. I am a member of a national one which helps a bit.
jjw have used PP for a few queries but don't think they can help much with this situation.

Name the most expensive school in the country. Just for a laugh. Then wait.

The LEA will rapidly give you every scrap of helpful information they hold about all the schools they have on their internal secret shortlist.

In the short term have you considered asking for home -tuition provision form the LA if he can't access a suitable education in current setting? This might be difficult for your circumstances still as would be unlikely to be anything like full time hours. but possibly flexi-schooling set up where only some of his hours are in the unsupportive school setting?

Re the secondary placement, do you think ds would cope with journey school in neighbouring county if he had an escort with him in taxi? Or would you/he consider a residential placement so that could look at schools further afield?

Walter - similar to your ds .
We would consider a resi placement if there was nothing else suitable within decent travelling distance but that will cost.
I don't even know if he would cope with travelling with an escort
He was part-time for months so that 'his needs were better understood' and has missed loads of school already as they didn't supply any work. There is a complaint ongoing about this. Ds and dh really depressed about it all and I have to keep it all together.
