An apple employee pointed out this new feature on the IPad for 'Autistic' kids. It seems really good for young children where you want to limit their control on the iPad. It basically allows certain areas of the iPad to be disabled to touch. link here

P.S. I should warn you before you download the update that you will lose YouTube App as I found out to my own cost. off course you can download replacement YouTube apps but it might not be as familiar to your dc so will have to relearn how to use it.

Not only that its only the app for the iPhone! The iPad app is due out in a few months!!

Where did you find the limited access. Was. It in settings??

There is an app called Jasmine for Ipad which does the same thing as youtube.

The guided access is in Settings>>General>>Accessibility>>Guided Access

Is not simpler just to turn permissions off for deleting apps ? Or is the issue that you want to stop attention wandering to other apps ? You can also get sticky things to put over the home button to 'enforce' attention on to one particular app . I might have one or two lying around if anyone would like to try it.

willow, you are probably right, it is more useful if your attention spans wanders off and you start pressing random buttons on the ipad.
Part of this is a feature where you have to press the home button 3 times in quick succession to exit the app.
