Does anyone know of any secondary schools for ASD children in these areas please? Ds is high functioning so needs to be at one where he can take some exams. He is also very complex with sometimes challenging behaviour (PDA). Have asked various sources but no-one seems to know of a school that would suit him and I don't know this area very well . Any help would be appreciated.

Is this one any good? www.cruckton.com
Not sure if it is academically challenging enough for your DS, but it is the only specialist school in Shropshire

Forgot to say, it is not a state school,it is run privately, but it is where boys with ASD in Shropshire go (funded by the LA) if they cant manage in Mainstream schools

Thanks bigblue. I had seen this and thought it looked quite good until I saw the fee's - £175k per year Shock. Seeing as the LA think paying a bus fare is too expensive they'd choke if I requested this Smile

looking Does your DS have a statement? If he does and you can't find a school that meets his needs in your area, then you can fight for a suitable school.

Yes ds does have a full time sm but even so I can't see any way on earth that the LA would fund that tbh. There appear to be limited choices but LA said that any school can meet his needs Hmm

Is he in Yr 6 & you are looking for a school for next yr.
If so, have you approached the Sencos at your local Secondary schools to see if they think they can meet your DS's needs?
Your job is to build a case that these other schools cannot meet his needs and that he needs more specialist provision. Apologies if you already know that!

My DS has HFA and some behaviour issues. He has coped relatively well at MS - not all plain sailing but workable - and right for his academic level.

It all depends on your DS's specific needs and an individual schools ability and willingness to cope.
