Wish me luck! Docs tomorrow...

I have an appt at GPs to talk about my concerns about DS. I have written everything down I want to say so i don't forget anything. I have printed off the list of symptoms from the dyspraxia foundation website and ticked all the areas of concern.

I really hope I don't come across as neurotic(!) I have chosen the nicest doc, so hope it will be OK!

Reading back all the stuff I have written down makes me a bit sad. It is a long list ... :(

Wish you loads of luck and hope that your GP is one that listens to the MUM Smile

No its not nice when you right it all down. I quite frankly burst into tears within 2 mins of getting in the docs room. Although embarrased I think it added to the fact of how concerned I was.

Good Luck x

Yes, I am also very concerend about bursting into tears(!) It took tears to convince DH to be at home to look after DS in the waiting room. He is totally on board with my concerns, but doesn't see it as a priority to see GP. I on the otherhand, can think about nothing else at the moment...

Good luck.

It's a very emotional time.

Make sure you get a referral to an OT.

Am I asking to see a paed as well as an OT?!

Yes! Sorry I didn't read it properly and thought your appt tomorrow was with a paed.

But yes, he needs to be seen by both a paed and an OT. The OT will be the most help, and will actually be able to offer practical suggestions and or therapy.......

:) Thought so! I suppose what I really want is practical stuff more than a dx as such.

Good luck! I too burst into tears when I initially went to the GP about my dd1!

The OT is able to offer practical suggestions and help, and possibly also come into school and make recommendations.....

We're back from the docs. He was lovely and put up with a few small sobs from me(!) I didn't say everything I had written down (and missed out some key things), but it didn't matter as he agreed with me quite early on that DS might be dyspraxic and it definitely warrants investigation. We have been referred to a peadiatrician, but have NO IDEA how long it might take for the appt to come through. He agreed with me that the pain in his arm might be related to his hypermobile elbows (they have to be seen to be believed!) and he will prob need physio.
I am reasonably happy now! Must stop worrying now...wheels are in motion...

I think there are govt targets and you have to be seen for your first appointment within 6 weeks. (Although this might have changed.)

Of course the first appointment is just that - the first one. You'll probably come out of that one down to see him again in 6 months and on the waiting list for OT, on the waiting list for phsyio, without a dx and with nothing actually having been done yet......

But well done. First hurdle overcome.

Oh that is good Smile

Well done you have made the first jump to getting him help.

In a strange way I think I am emotionally able to get through everything else now I have dealt with today. I am prepared for it all to take a long time, but at least things are happening now.

Got to write a letter for his new teacher now. Luckily she's the SENCO so should understand what I am going on about(!)
