Delayed speech in baby - any book recommendations please?

Can anyone recommend a good book to help get a 12 month old baby going wtih speech - baby is non verbal - doesn't really babble, very quiet. Awaiting paed referral but want to help baby in meantime.

yes, several of the hanen books. they tend to be pricey on amazon, worth checking ebay, waterstones.com and winslow catalogue. It Takes Two to Talk is also good. There is a cheaper more basic Hanen book called You Make the Difference which isnt as thorough but is worthwhile.

If your baby can imitate fine you might want to try some signing as well (sing and sign DVDs) or SOmething SPecial on cbeebies.

Hi - agree with all of the above, dd is 16 months and has severe speech delay and we've tried them all.
We've been with SALT since dd was 3 months old, but we only started to see an improvement after we started the Hanen course (we did 'It takes two to talk') which was fantastic. Has your dc had their hearing tested recently? As dd delay is in part linked to her having glue ear, so we've been told to expect another step change once her hearing is fixed next month.

Meant to add that the SALT department at dd hospital have weekly drop in clinics (no appointment or referral required) where they can do a brief assessment of your dc and offer suggestions, so might be worth seeing if there is anything similar near you. HTH

It takes two to talk by Hanen. Fantastic book, More than Words is ASD specific, but also excellent. Cheap source Winslow here
