looking for a rucksack for my 5 year old that has a bit that fastens round his tummy, and a parent strap at the back so i can stop him running away and pack the shopping at the same time...

i have seen ones on john lewis, but they are too wee. he is pretty big.

anyone use anything like this, and if so , where did you get it?

Little life do some great ones. Ds1 (ASD) has the turtle dinosaur one and DS2 has the cow one.

Little Life animal backpacks are great. My son is in age 5-6 clothes and they still fit him. It's a shame the bigger backpacks don't come with a parent strap though.

Little life alpine 4 is for older kids and does have a strap. You can also buy the strap to add to a different backpack. Fox's outdoor survival gear shop seems to stck most of them. Sorry can't do links on phone!

Oh I'll have a look, thank you. As long as it has a hook I can use one of the other straps I have I suppose Smile

I would also vote for the Little Life one. DS was still using at 4 and a half when he was height and weight of a six YO.

we have a little life one, which has been a life saver, ds is now too big, he is nearly 5 but the size of a 6-7 yr old. (but he is now holding hand) I have always used a really cheap dog lead with it, from the pound shop. We also have a cobblers/shoe repairer who can sew an extra lower strap on, (the top one with the catch is too close to his throat now, IYSWIM. )

Blacks outdoor shop did ( and may still) do a range of small back packs with hip and chest straps and a carry handle at the top . Boy uses one as a day sack now he is too big for teh little life. I guess the carry handle would be tough enough to clip a strap too. alternatively loop a tie wrap ( cable tie) through the "hose" or mp3 hole and the main zip opening and clip to that.
