As parents of autistic or other children with special needs, we have our problems but I thought it would be lovely so share our funny times, our happy times, the times when we just want to laugh, when autism brings joy to our lives.'

SO I'll start off and would love it it you would share your funny autistic or SN moments.

Here we go:

I am big on telling my child that he is smart, he can be who he wants to be, achieve anything he wants to so long as he puts the work in at school. I tell him that if he doesn't work at school he'll end up on a till going bleep bleep bleep all day. I think I am doing the right thing.... Until.........

We go into Asda and he asks the young man on the till.... you've guessed it.....

Do you have to work on a till and do a crap job because you didnt bother at school?

I remonstrate with said child telling him it is rude, to which he totally drops me in it, saying "that's what you told me mum". Just as I wanted a huge hole to swallow me up the young lad on the till said he thought my son was hysterical and burst into laughter.

Thank goodness.

When have you found humour is SN?

Shock How awful. Hopefully the lad was supporting himself at college or something!?

DS was doing class discrimination and was asked 'Sheep, pigs and lions are all........'

and he replied 'scary!'

Grin

Not sure that is a SN thing though.

My DS2 doesn't chat much, Sad but his very quirky brother asked my frail and rather deaf 80 year old mother today, "If you could have a super-power, Nana, what would it be?" After lots of, What? Pardon? etc. she came up with wheels instead of legs.

Ds, goes through little phases of repeating everything you say. While at a little summer scheme last year, we had 2 sign in, and the older ladies got quite fond of him. They had what we'll call a real broad Belfast accent. So on the way out the 1st, ds was saying bye to them all. 1. Of the ladies said, awk bye love, 2 which ds repeated the exact same thing back, then said bye darling, see you 2moro, love you lots, blowing kisses. I was mortified lol. They thought it was lovely, n ds thought he was the bees knees Smile

2 things have made me laugh this weekend.

1 - DD called DS Bruce Bog Trotter

2 - she went to the shop (over the road) with her big sister (12). a group of teenage girls were outside, the kind you just walk past and dont look at. DD2 insisted on croaking at them Blush

Lovely stories it's what makes parenting an autistic child so much fun. I was practicing a word association exercise for an interview I went to. I asked him what was the first thing he thought of when I said "valentine", thinking he'd say love, flowers, chocolates. I got February!

Also ds still gets confused between man & woman. Everyone's a man. He's really tall so looks older. Anyway he has a tendency to pick out the most attractive girls, say hi, they then go all gooey, n think how cute he is. Till ge screams at the top of his voice: it's a man!!

I also remember paying for something in a shop, I put the £10 on the counter, ds lifted it, threw it at the cashier and said : here woman. Cashier was fuming, i had 2 stifle my giggles lol
