Jimmy Carr is vile. Comedy is currently populated with male knobheads who like to pick on those they think won't be in their audience - people they obviously consider 'below' them. It is no different from the old comedians who told jokes about black people, and modern audiences are no different in their level of ignorance and bigotry.

I was annoyed too - not only with the pathetic, weak 'joke' but also because it got the biggest laugh from the audience. I don't know what is going on with comedians in general with regards SN at the moment. They are all at it as if a magic 'no holds barred' button has been pressed somewhere. I get upset because I love comedy but wish they would find another target angry

I hate Jimmy Carr - he is a knob.

I am not suprised
I have seen tourettes used on mn to get a cheap lol

TheCrackFox Fri 26-Nov-10 10:18:12

Jimmy Carr is just not funny. I have no idea how he is on the TV - he is like a creepy Bob Monkhouse.

ShadeofViolet Fri 26-Nov-10 10:18:49

Sometimes I think he protests too much iyswim.

USoRight Fri 26-Nov-10 10:58:35

People laugh at this type of 'joke' through ignorance and fear. Sadly it will be a long time before people are less ignorant. Jc is such a smarmy git anyway!

'no-one liked him'....quelle surprise.

He is an odd and deeply insecure bloke. I get the feeling he has a lot of baggage (haven't I read articles about him bein a virgin until his late 20s because of his strict religious faith? Nothing wrong with that but perhaps it explains his attitudes now...like some kind of teenager looking to shock.

But he's not a teenager, he's a middle aged man and creepy and, I think, very contrived and unfunny.

It's interesting that he tries to have it all ways - Channel 4 and a pretence at being satirical and urbane and then crap Bernard Manning type jokes - as if one makes the other alright.

It doesn't.

Comedy is like the new cooking. All these comedians selling out stadia for loads of dosh after a couple of appearances on tv. Cheap targets give cheap laughs. I pity the fools who pay for tickets.

I think the problem is, it can only be funny if you are laughing at yourself - ie OK to make light of your own condition, but not for someone else to thrust in your face what they think about it, on the basis of ignorance. He is getting his own back on the world for being made to feel like an outsider, not by taking control of the reasons for his own problems, but by trying to make everyone else feel like an outsider, too, one minority group at a time. Time for him to visit a psychologist! Poor fellow.

He's just as vile as Frankie Boyle...won't watch anything with them in it.

smallwhitecat LOl! I do avoid the main board because generally (and I realise i'm making a generalisation) they tend to be a bunch of stuck up, neurotic, over the top, selfish, insensitive, politically correct slightly leaning to the left judgemental knobs...)and you're right, most of them love Frankie Boyle.

I don't dislike him because i'm over-sensitive, I dislike him because he usually talks a load of shit and just isn't funny. I don't think he's very clever either. Same for Jimmy Carr.

GoodDaysBadDays Tue 30-Nov-10 00:42:48

Oh wow Eloise,

I use the 'main' boards and here for different things but come here for the specialist stuff and as it's generally more sympathetic.

Although I enjoy a bit of a spat, I was lead to believe the sn boards are not the place for the bitchy comments.

Think you fit in 'over there' better than you realise.

fwiw, until now I didn't think there was such segregation between the sn and the 'main' boards.

Eloise73 Tue 30-Nov-10 09:23:43

gooddays

Wow indeed...have you ever been on the 'main' boards and made any comments in relation to having a special needs child? Believe me, there is heaps of segregation.

However, as I said above, I was generalising, outrageously, but generally my experience on the main boards has been as stated above. Some of the stuff i've read, really personal attacks on people here in the SN board have been beyond bitchy.

So i'm sorry if you think I fit in better over there but you do get a bit jaded reading that crap over and over again. Hence why Frankie Boyle is more acceptable to people on other boards than here.

We don't all do that though SWC, even when we are rather PC and slightly left (^hugely^ left) leaning.....

Main board's hit and miss; some lovely people, some wankers. the trick is to realise that if you spend laods of time ehre (hands up, but reducing a bit) then something's not quite right, whether it's loneliness, relationships or more severe, so not to assume that the very most extreme views are representative of anyone much in RL.

Even if they are Tory wink

Eloise73 Tue 30-Nov-10 16:12:15

santas LOL! I agree with everything you say (even if I am a Tory grin). I had to stop reading the AIBU boards as I found them hugely depressing when it came to anything to do with disability.

BTW, when I said 'slightly leaning to the left' that was NOT a dig at the left/Labour, far from it, it was a dig at those who generally support the viewpoint that is most fashionable and again, politically correct.

SantasMooningArse Tue 30-Nov-10 17:02:04

Ah now that I can't do LOL- stuck fast to my own ways, me. Not always a good thing.

2shoesnightmarebeforechristmas Tue 30-Nov-10 17:07:39

Eloise73 I think you have to realize that most people who post on the sn topic also post on the main board, there are also some lovely very supportive of sn people on the main boards, yes their are bigots and odd people, but they are not the majority.

Eloise73 Tue 30-Nov-10 17:23:10

2shoes I know, I was being slightly dramatic in my generalisation (with the exception of the AIBU forum maybe...).

2shoesnightmarebeforechristmas Tue 30-Nov-10 17:23:34

oh aibu is a bitchfest
