Nessy Learning System and Nessy Games

Am thinking of getting Nessy for my severely dyslexic 9yr old son. He is still unable to blend sounds when reading. Has anyone used either of them and would Nessy Games be fine without the Learning System which is v expensive?

Many thanks.

We bought the Nessie games which is very pricey. We used it for our daughter with HF Autism. She really enjoyed the games.

I do think to take full advantage of the programme, you will need to do some one to one
with the lesson plans available on the CD ROM.
They are easy, but you do have to be consistent. So it is not an independent learning tool. Your son is dyslexic it may be different where he may be more focused oriented on the sounds. My daughter would jump from one game to the other.
You can buy the "Gamesplayer" which is about £18.00 for a taster of the programme.

Another programme we used was Earobics.

Worth noting that there is a brand new version of the Nessy Learning Programme available which has just won the ERA Award for "Best Special Needs Resource". Looks like the new website is www.nessylearningprogramme.co.uk/

I've used it. I was slightly disappointed, but I only had the earlier version. For the price, I didn't get what I was hoping for - so many of the games had good potential, but weren't developed as fully as they could have been - the same words came up every time in the same order, for example, so children didn't learn a particular rule, but instead just the pattern of correct answers. A lot of the games were print out and stick, so you had to devote a lot of time to making them, and then the cards never shuffled or dealt as well as commercial ones, etc. That said, there were a couple of really good games on there that I did use over and over, really good. It doesn't work on my newest computer though, so I've not used it for a while.
