Supporting daughter in school - SEN Needs

Hi All,

My daughter is in year 1, she’s been having problems since starting school. We think she’s probably on the austism spectrum but are waiting for an appointment with CAMHS (2 year + waiting list). She’s very sensory and struggles with noise and the general school environment. We have SEN support in place at school and are waiting for a decision regarding an EHCP from the local authority. She finds some days at school difficult and ends up spending time on the iPad if there’s no support available. I’m not particularly happy with this as I feel they are not trying to include her when there is no support, however it is what it is for now until we know about additional funding. I’ve been asked by the school whether I could come in one morning a week to support her to do the work they would normally do when there is no support in place at school. I work 4 days per week so could do it but I just feel like she’s being sidelined. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it reasonable or not? How she is at school does vary, she can have really good days and bad days, there’s no real pattern to it. There are other days where there is no support but they know I can’t help then as I’m at work.

I feel like we already do loads at home to support school to get her to where she needs to be, yes I could do the work with her but I’m not a teacher and I just feel let down by the school.

Any advice would be appreciated!
