Hi, I phoned up and was told to write to the LEA with medical issues, which compared to so many others are not huge. The issue is PE department dont pay any attention to my letters at the beginning of each year, cause injuries some may be life long minor disabilities, and when I complained in the past the PE department has become sadistic towards the dc, so they dc tell me not to complain. So many times the dc cant go to school after PE due to being forced into injury.

There are also carrying books issues and writing issues. dc seen consultants, not sure if all has been written, although discussed. One dc is due to see Prof Graham soon for possible EDS, Elhers Danlos Syndrome diagnosis, well at least a report, she is undergoing a sleep study for possible sleep apnea and a hearing test too soon. I need to get the other dc referred as she is having lots of problems too again. Both have pre existing Hyper Mobility Syndrome, HMS, diagnosis.

I want them to do PE, just to be able to stop when they need to, not tortured into pain, injury and disability. One hates PE and the other is beginning to hate PE now.

Dc are year 7 and 9.

It depends really, on what support your children need. The difficulties they have, in themselves, will not get you a Statement for them. Whether you get a Statement will depend on whether the school could reasonably be expected to meet their needs from within their own budget.

If the only support they need is to be able to say 'stop...enough...it hurts' then they probably don't need a statement, tbh.

If it is more than that, then it may be different.

Ask for a meeting with the head, the SEN governor and the school nurse. Bring the medical letters and your diary of events (retrospective scribblings are better than nothing). Beforehand, sit with your dc and ideally also a tame 'normal' classmate each. Find out exactly what PE involves and why it causes problems.

The 'normal' kid may know what 'should' be done, and how much your dc is struggling. This matters as your dc are probably brave, hard-workers who dont want to mention the HMS unless desperate. The other kid will also grass on the universally hated Mr Sadistic-Evil, or help you decide if modifications are impossible (eg in cross country you can't leave the limping child behind).

Bring a clear printout of what they need in PE which is different or additional to what the other kids are doing. Ask how (not if) it can be arranged. Add to IEP, log school action. Ask for physio advice, check logged as school action plus.

Or just pull them from PE. They need activity, not bullying and injury.
