My son and dyspraxia (How his school is failing him)

Hi there I was wondering if anyone else is as fustrated as I am with the way their child is treated at school.

This may go on for a bit and i am sorry but my son has been failed from day one.

My son was diagnosed in Primary school with having developmental dyspraxia, dyslexia and audio memory. He was statemented and received educational help and support but not emotional. He was constantly bullied as he is mentally behind his peers and didn't understand that they were laughing at him not with him.

I couldnt get him into a special school as he wasnt dumb enough.
He is now in his 2nd year of secondary school and things have gone from bad to worse. He is in a mainstream school only because myself and my partner cant afford a private school. He is victimised by both students and teachers. In his first year there he was overheard by another student talking to himself saying he wanted to kill himself. The schools answer call social services as we must be bad parents. So while I was trying to cook dinner 2 social workers turned up and started having a go at me saying that I was a bad parent and informing me that my son was suicidal.
So after fighting that battle with them and them realising that I am not to blame I now have the school constantly giving my son detention, calling me up and telling me that he is a disruptive influence and basically destroying my sons self esteem.
Also his secondary school is not giving him all the help his statement says he requires they say they dont have the funding.
Does anyone know of a school in London who might take him? Has anyone else been through a similar experience and have advice to offer?
thanks and sorry if i ranted i am just at the end of my tether with it all.

I would reply, but can't get past your offensive tone - 'wasn't dumb enough. WTF?

You need to speak to the SENCO at your son's school. I agree with previous poster saying you son wasn't dumb enough is offensive.

That sounds terrible OP. But what chance does your son have if his own parent refers to him as "dumb"?

Sounds like he needs a new school. Anywhere would be an improvement surely? Or can you home ed?

My dd doesn't even have a diagnosis yet because they simply cant make up their minds what is wrong almost 5 years after being involved with CAMHS. :( I worry for her future. At least you have the diagnosis, so you are one step ahead of those of us fighting for it while our kids are failed miserably!

My son has possible developmental dyspraxia and ASD, we're trying to get a diagnosis just now, I'm in the process of trying to have him moved to a special school that would be more equipped to deal with him and could offer him more support as he's having problems in the school he's in just now, but I really hope he isn't called dumb Sad if he manages to get in, that was a horrid thing to say...

'wasn't dumb enough' for special school Hmm
my ds1 goes to special school - he would qualify for mensa based on his IQ.
However ds2 has dyspraxia so I do understand your frustration.
