Removal from the AEN register

DS2 is 8.7 years and was diagnosed with Dyslexia eighteen months ago by a educational psychologist at Dyslexia Action. His school immediately placed him on the AEN register, gave him an IEP and he has been receiving 45 minutes a week with a support teacher.
we have received a letter from the school today saying that as he has made such good progress they would like to remove him from the register. While we are very happy that he has made progress (still at the lower end of the class though), we are wondering what his removal from the register will mean.
I am going to ask for a meeting with the SENCO next week but does anyone know if they are allowed to remove him from the register as he has a diagnosed AEN. His dyslexia is never going to go away and although he has made progress he is not achieving his full potential.
Sorry for the long post!
