Private labelling business - general experience

I'm just interested to know if anyone has (or had) a business in acquiring white /private label products and branding them as their own. If so how you find it, how did you start up/find a supplier you liked/sourced packaging/build up a brand or community etc? Just general experience would be really useful if poss.
