I'm expecting DC2 soon and have a 18 month old so I think a sling could be very practical but I really wanted to try them out.

I'm in Central Scotland and I know there are some sling meets/libraries in Edinburgh and Glasgow but I'm quite far.

Does anyone know of any shops that stock a good variety if models I can try on?

I'm looking for a suitable from birth model that's easy to BF in.

Thanks!

Most shops don't have a variety!
If you can't get to a sling meet, how big is your credit card? Could you order online a variety, and send most (all?) back??

Never got on with feeding in a sling, so no suggestions of what to try, sorry.

No. But, some sling libraries will post slings to you so you can try them.

I used a Moby wrap/Kari-Me for 6 months and then I switched to an Ergo which I still use (DD is 13 months). I didn't feed in either of them.

I'm the same. Small gap of 1year between both boys. I have a caboo ring sling. Very comfy for carrying. But haven't tried feeding. Let me know how u get on!

Same as star girl, but fed in both!

There aren't really shops - a good sling library is what you need.

Showmeslings is in morningside in edinburgh and she is excellent- so helpful. They have a website too so you can see what stock she holds.

Thank you so much for all the answers. Showmeslings definitely looks worth the trip to Edinburgh, thanks lovecats.

Do you think I should wait until the baby is born and try it out then or is it easier to just pick now?

It's hard to say. Some babies are fussy about slings and prefer different types! However it's nice to have one to use from as early as you want, and if you get it early you can practice. Usually sling shops/meets/consultants will have weighted dolls so you can see how they feel with something actually in them.

To be honest, for a newborn til 3/4 months the only one I would use is a stretchy wrap. If it were me I would get one of those, then choose a longer term sling at that point when you have a baby to try in it!
