Apologies if there is a similar thread, couldn't find one on the search.

I have decided to have a go at some kind of carrier, ideally on the hip, for use with my 18 mo DS. When he is not well or has had a bad dream, he only wants me to hold him, and whilst I have no problem with that, he is getting pretty heavy! I've seen a scootababy thing (doing a google), but don't want to plump for the first thing I see, if you guys have more experience and better suggestions.

I want it to feel like I am still cuddling him, just with a bit of support to take some of the weight. Hopefully it will be suitable until he is about 2 1/2 yrs. Any thoughts?

I've got the dumbells out of the loft as back up lol!

If you definitely want a hip carrier, the Scootababy is the only dedicated hip buckle carrier I can think of. You can do a hip carry with carriers like the Ergo or Manduca but they are predominantly designed for front/back carrying, whereas the Scootababy is designed predominantly for hip.

A ring sling also works as a hip carrier but I think the Scootababy is easier to get to grips with to be honest. A woven wrap can also be used on the hip but again you have to learn to tie it.

The Hippychick hip seat is useful but you still have to hold onto the child to take a fair bit of the weight.

Scootababy are bringing out a wider version very soon which should help it last for as long as you are wanting it to. Slumber Roo are the UK distributor so should be able to advise you on when the new one comes out - it should be a matter of days as far as I'm aware so worth contacting them before you order to make sure you get the wider new version, if you decide to buy one.

Lastly, if you're near a sling meet or sling library you could go and try some things in person? Worth checking they have a Scootababy as not all do. Most should have a ring sling though.
