Slimming World

How have meetings changed?

I go to be weighed but I really can’t stand the meetings. Our consultant is great but often people talk amongst themselves which makes it impossible to hear what people are saying and all the clapping does my head in. I understand that Head Office have made changes to the format of the Image Therapy meetings. What happens now? Do you prefer it?

The meetings are still the same as 2005 when I joined. My current consultant tells people to be respectful as we have one woman who never shuts up

Thanks - last time I went she said that there was to be less going around talking about individual losses. There is a large group of people in mine who just talk amongst themselves and she sometimes tells them off but not always and if she just they just laugh and ignore her anyway. They’re lovely people but just don’t realize how difficult it is to hear other people.

I joined for the first time last week and stayed for the meeting, it dragged on for ages and the consultant actually came to me in front of the group during the rounds then announced to the whole group I was losing weight for health reason but we can come back to me next week.

I was a bit shocked because she had asked me during the one on one talk why I wanted to lose weight. Didn't think that was great to be honest.

That’s appalling. I didn’t fill out the health form fully -none of their business.
Mind you, I suppose most of us ultimately want to lose for health reasons. You can ask her not to come to you when she goes round everyone. I did this recently. She still made a comment that I’d lost 1/2 or something but moved straight on. I meant I didn’t want her to speak to me at all!

I have just started again and dread the meetings! I want to stay and get my moneys worth but the format is appalling, especially for big groups! I’d rather there was a check of whether to come to you or not and then there would be more time to learn about recipes/ health things etc. This just means you have to hear about how people have not stuck to plan all week and/or they have religiously but haven’t lost - it’s not very inspiring tbh!

Team fun tech is a load of bs. As bad and all that is the week before last our county Slimming World development officer - the person over the SW consultants in my county came in to take over the class and split those who stayed to class into 4 groups.

She then read out a long story and when she said specific words one group would have to stand up, wave their arms in the air and chant a phrase such as the more speed you choose the more weight you lose.

If that's how Slimming World want to go then it's no longer for me. I'm too long in the tooth for such gobshite carry on. There wasn't one member in the class that liked it.

I’ve done it in a couple of different areas.

One the consultant did the circle +2 -2 SS thing and then spoke about recipes or aspects of the diet.

In the other area the consultant was all about motivational chats and pseudo sermons about loving yourself enough to carry on losing weight.

I think I prefer the first type tbh.

Although let’s be honest they are both hell on earth.

I preferred a consultant we had for a while who didn’t go round the room but asked for updates
Eg who wants to share how successful they’ve been this week
Anyone particularly struggling
Anyone tried any new recipes
Any non scale successes out there
And so on until bulk of group had contributed something
We also did group activities eg get together and plan a SW friendly BBQ/party buffet/3 course dinner party
Then share with full group
