Slimming World

What is everyone doing for Christmas?

I weigh in on a Monday so will be going on Christmas Eve, then my plan is to have two days off plan, then straight back on, on the 27th.

Is this mad? I know I’m going to be undoing my hard work, but I have a lot of weight to lose (I was 30 stone at the beginning of April, and am now down to 22st 4.5), and I just think that if I gain 5lbs, It’s not the end of the world. I really hope it won’t be that bad though. So far I’ve got through 5 family birthdays without any hitches, but Christmas is different somehow.

I’d love to know what everyone else is planning to do.

Well done for your weight loss so far. I am also taking a few days off and enjoying some nice treats too

tata4now, I think as long as we set a stop date and stick to it, we’ll be fine.

I’ve been walking 5000 steps a day for the last few weeks (which I know is nothing compared to most people, but it’s a lot for me), and I’m hoping to carry on doing that over Christmas. Possibly not on the 25th, although Im sure I can do a bit, but definitely on Boxing Day. Hopefully it will help.

Enjoy your Christmas 🎅🏼🎄

Well done on your weight loss! Amazing.
If you think you’ll be able to step back into it after a break, then go for it. I do this and not only am I losing weight, I also don’t feel like I’m in Diet Prison.
In my experience, going back onto it and being strict means that the gain becomes a loss quite quickly.
Have fun! Merry Christmas!
(And PS...if you take a break but you’re still committed, you won’t put on nearly as much as you think you will...)

I see this as a way of life now. Will have some extra treats but most of my food is cooked SW friendly. But I no longer buy all the excess we no longer need.

dollyboots - diet prison is exactly what i’m trying to avoid. I’ve got a long long way to go, and this is going to be my life from now on, so I think being too strict with myself will be more likely to send me off plan completely.

I love my little Slimming World group, and I’m really enjoying losing weight (another 3lbs off at last nights weigh in), so I definitely think (hope) i’ll be able to get back on plan.

Good luck everyone

I agree! I’ve done SW before, very strictly, lost loads, got bored...and of course it’s all gone back on. This time I’m doing the healthy version (limiting processed food, reducing portion size etc.) and taking the slow route by taking breaks for birthdays, odd meals out, holidays and so on. I’ve lost nearly 3 stone since March, and believe me I’ve had my naughty times! Finally feel like I can do this for life.
Best of luck! Sounds to me like you’ve got this!

I will be having three meals out over Christmas, so will count those as flexible syns and "be good either side".
Have got to the bottom of my target range over last couple of weeks, to allow for extra syns, so hopefully, I will stay within my target.
I don't get away with much!
I think that the key is to decide on your strategy for dealing with Xmas, and stay in control.
There's a good article on SW website about planning your Xmas coping strategy.
Yes, I could happily enjoy eating large amounts of high-syn food, but staying in my target weight is more important to me than sausage rolls and mince pies: you just have to decide what matters to you.

I a, having until the 28th off plan starting tomorrow. By off plan I don't mean eating lard straight from the packet, but if I'm offered a cake, chocolate, biscuits etc, I'm not going to turn them down. I will probably be over my target 'allowance' when I weigh in the first week of January and may have to pay for a week or so at the start of the year until I'm back in target but I'm going to enjoy Christmas.

I've lost 6st 8lbs since starting in January this year and have been a target member since August so I think I deserve a week off.

I think you do too, shires - well done you!

You definitely do Shires, you’ve done brilliantly. I think, for me, the safest way to get me throwing in my dieting towel, is me feeling deprived. I did slimming world in 2012, and still have my old record book. I lost weight every single week for about 12 weeks, then my last weigh I was the 22nd December, and I vividly remember sticking strictly to plan on Christmas Day (taking a muller light to my mums for Christmas Day pudding etc). I don’t know what happened then, but I didn’t hit back to slimming world until this year. I’m sure it will have been because I felt deprived.
