I'm losing the will to live as every attempt is a disaster
How do you make yours?

I made some tonight that were lovely!

1 banana, mashed really well
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 dessert spoon sweetener
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Best everything together. It's a really runny mixture. Don't be scared by this!

Spray a frying pan with Fly-Light (I used the butter one.)

Carefully spoon about 2 tbsp of mixture into the pan. It should start sizzling straight away - if not, warm the pan more.

Cook for 1-2 minutes till brown.

Flipping them over is slightly tricky because the top will still be very liquid. Lever them upwards slowly, then flip over. Cook for another minute or so.

Eat!

Mine still looked a bit undercooked but tasted lovely.

Are these the pancakes you mean?

I hate to rain on your parade but you know officially you have to syn these? They are classed as a tweak.

Oh. My. Lord. 💔 Really??

How can I syn them, though, when bananas and eggs are both syn-free?

Report
WhatsGoingOnEh · 19/09/2016 21:47

Is it because the bananas are mashed up..?

I really don't see what's wrong with these. It's not like all the ingredients combine and then EXPLODE in a weird calorific combination.

...is it??

I'd say the weird cakes made from yogurts and fizzy drinks and mushed-up Scan Bran are worse.

...aren't they?

One hextra of oats, one Activia 0% yogurt berry flavours are nicest. One egg mix it all together and wait for a bit. Then dollop into a warm frying pan cook for about three minutes then flip. Serve with another yogurt drizzled over and loads of berries (frozen rasp will defrost in the time it takes to cook). No banana needed, they are four syns each when mashed or cooked and you could spend those four syns on my homemade plum and vanilla jam (which didn't set) and tastes heavenly with magic pancakes.

Four Syns in a mashed banana? Yikes!

Yes it's really rubbish but it's because if you mash, juice or cook fruit you are much more likely to consume more of it. Fruit in its original form it's much more filling so helps to stop you eating lots of other calories (also the reason for the third of you plate being veg)
Personally if I was having the occasional banana and mashing it I wouldn't syn but if I was using a recipe that needed four I would. This why smoothies etc are also synned.
There is also a rule about tweaks but I can't really remember it but it involves lots of syns!! Tabulahrasa is usually good for things like this!

You need to soak the oats in the yoghurt for as long as you can, overnight works best, otherwise you get oaty omelette instead of pancakes.

Ooh I missed that, I feel all special, lol.

It's a tweak if you're misusing free foods -as in to make something that would usually have Syns.

With fruit and mashing/cooking, it's because you're more likely to eat more of it at the time, but also because you've basically pre-digested it a bit, you'll not be as full afterwards and more likely to eat more on top.

You're supposed to syn the free food as what it's replacing, so I suppose in pancakes it's flour...but you'd be better just synning the bananas as mashed banana, it'll be less...and still limiting the portion, which is what synning them is for.

I made syn free pancakes.
1 egg
6 tablespoons sweetener
Vanilla one tsp
Separate eggs. Equal sweetener into each. Whisk whites to stiff peaks, whisk yolks and add vanilla then fold together. Spread out in pan. Few minutes each side.

Served with quark sweetener and vanilla added, and berries.

I never syn my banana pancakes. My justification is as long as you use the same number of bananas as you would reasonably eat in a day (so I mash up one banana instead of eating it whole) then it doesn't make a difference. It's only a tweak if you're using like 5 bananas but make one portion of pancakes!

6 Tablespoons of sweetener!! Not sure I could stomach that.

Here's mine
35g oats
1 egg
0.5 tsp baking powder
2T yoghurt
Capful vanilla essence
1T sweetener or to taste

Fry in Fry light. 0.5 syn for the baking powder.
