when did your baby start sleeping and going longer than 3 hours without a feed?

2 nights in a row my little one fed/went to bed around 10pm and slept until 6 am!

Is this a freak happening? is it ok to go that long without food at such a young age?

its crazy but rather than being happy, i was up at 2 am worrying...

tell me your experience

I think you are lucky! As long as your baby is drinking plenty of milk during the hours he or she is awake then it should be fine.

fwiw my dd1 slept for around 8-10 hours from about 4 months.

dd2 (now almost 3 years) well, let's say we're lucky to get an undisturbed night even now.

My DD started to do this around 8.5 weeks when we introduced a bedtime routine. We'd previously been keeping her downstairs with us until we went to bed, but she was getting really cranky...we thought it was colic, but she was actually just tired and couldn't switch off with the tv on etc.

I thought it was too good to be true, but she's been doing 9pm-4.30am (or thereabouts) ever since...she's almost 12 weeks now and i'm trying to bring bedtime forward to 8pm, but am not having much luck...

Are you BF? It made my boobs so sore for a few days, but they adjusted to her new routine pretty quickly.

Enjoy it while it lasts - i am - cos i know it'll all go out the window when teething starts

As long as she is getting plenty of milk during the day, then relax and enjoy! DS was a complete nightmare for sleeping reaching the age of 2 before I could rely on hi sleeping through. DD started sleeping through at 8 weeks and has never looked back....didn't even wake for teething. She (bless her cotton socks) is a little terror during the daytime but the one thing she does right is sleep .

It's rare but it happens.

My ds slept through from 12 weeks.

dd1 slept from 12-6 from 6 weeks, then 7-6 from 3 months.
if it's any consolation, she was a NIGHTMARE during the day and dd2 was not the same story

my ds slept through the night from 6 weeks... until he was about 9 months old and things went very very pear-shaped with awful sleepless nights until he was 2! But i do know people who have had babies who slept through from that early and stayed that way.. but from my experience i would say don't count your chickens
although dd is 10 months and only started sleeping through at 8 months but has been consistent ever since so am hoping it will last..

DS1 - 7 weeks (Christmas Day was the first time he went through the night - aahhh!)
DD1 - 11 weeks (very titchy at birth so ate frequently at first)
DD2 - 8 weeks

Have been great sleepers ever since. Guess I was lucky, and maybe you are too!

ps and a gentle word of caution: don't go around telling your other new mum friends this wonderful news, unless you want to be lynched

Slept 10pm til 5.30am at 5 weeks.

Then 10pm til 8.30am from 10 weeks, now 15 weeks and still same.
She has 4 x 7oz bottles during the day.

It might not last, but equally it might....lots of babies are nowhere near sleeping through at this age, but some are perfectly capable of doing so and it's certainly nothing to worry about.

Both mine went from 11pm-7ish from around the 9 week stage (both BF). And that was how things more or less continued. Yes, of course there were periods of illness /teething/ growth spurts/ separation anxiety etc that disrupted things from time to time, but by and large the sleeping through remained consistent.

So accept it might not last, but enjoy it whilst it does...and yes, keep it quiet when around other new mums!

Please don't worry about it - just count yourself very lucky indeed. Some people ARE lucky (I was - my DD1 slept through 7pm to 6.30ish from just over 8 weeks and DD2, from 10 weeks and DS from 12 weeks, all bf). I agree with the comments about not making much of it with your new mum friends though - I fell into idiotic trap with DD1 of trying to 'help' my ante natal friends to get their babies to sleep through like mine and I think they would all have happily killed me!! In retrospect after having 3 good sleeping babies I am well aware that it was pretty well all just down to luck rather than my amazing parenting skills! I hope it lasts - it might do, mine never regressed.

another one here who's 9 week old sleeps through, I thought it was a fluke because he started when 7 weeks, he's ebf and cluster feeds from around 6pm until he goes to bed at 9pm, I introduced a bedtime routine of bath, massage and last feed then I put him in his cot while he is still awake, turn his mobile on and by the time the music finishes he's fast asleep......he sleeps until 0530 then I feed him, put him back down and he sleeps until 8am then we both get up

My DS is 3 weeks tomorrow and although I am shattered (and days are very difficult at the moment) he only wakes twice.

So 10pm until 2am until about 430am.

I really hope that in another month or so he drops one of those.

DD (2.4) never slept really, just fed or cried all night so I figure its payback

My dd 4 weeks goes to bed at 6.30. Dream feeds at 10.30 and wakes at 2.30-3.30 for feed then back to sleep til 6.30-7. She's showing signs of not being that interested at 2.30ish (taking less and less milk then - she is ff so I can see how she is cutting down each night). My elder dd was exactly the same and slept through from 7-7 at 6 weeks. Enjoy it!

The boys went 6pm to 6am from six weeks
DD went 6pm- midnight then fed, then half past midnight to 6am from six weeks and she finally dropped the midnight feed at 12 weeks.

My ds (4months) has slept through the night on several occasions since his birth, the first time at 4 weeks, however he intersperses this with nights where he will wake every 3 hours or so for a feed.

When my other two slept through the night for the first time, they did it for about three or four nights, just as I had got to the point of not worrying and would have happily slept through myself they decided to wake up again not to sleep through for the next few months!!

Enjoy it while it lasts!

My boy started sleeping through from about 8 weeks (still a great night time sleeper. Daytime is a TOTALLY different matter but hey ho) and he fell off his weight curve. Cutting a long story short I started waking him for a feed (formula) at 10.30 after the pediatrician insisted I give him top ups - and he's never woken since. Sleeps 7 till 7 and sometimes later every night.

It's freaky, but it can happen so don't worry. Enjoy your sleep - if your baby's anything like mine, you'll need it!

I am in the same situation (not complaining hehe) for the past 4 night my little one has been sleeping roughly 8 hours through the night and she is 9 weeks old! She is my first born so I am still learning. I'm going to make the most of it as it probably wont last eg. Teething ect

My daughter did this. She slept through from about 8 weeks until 16ish. And now she's 9mo and still doesn't Grin Although she does only wake up once most nights to be fair. Enjoy it while you can - baby sleep is a nebulous and ever-changing thing!

It actually makes me weepy reading this as it seems to be fairly common for 8/9 weeks to get 5+ hours of sleep a night.

Our LO still regularly wakes every 1.5-2 hours, taking 30-45min to resettle. 3 hours has been the max.

I would KILL to be in your position.

Hi @GingerBeverage I just wanted to make you feel better by saying that baby sleep changes all the time. Every couple of weeks. A baby sleeping for stretches of 5+ hours won’t necessarily still do that next week. My baby at 7-8 weeks once slept 8 hours without waking. It has never happened again and he’s now 21 weeks. It was a one off!
