DS is 8 months- is it too late for bedside cot?

We have recently started co-sleeping again. Ds has actually become a good night time sleeper, and started sleeping through- ish from about 6 months. He started waking in night so I brought him in with us.

dh and I have decided that we like having him with us, and that we might just start co-sleeping, rather than brining him in.

At the moment he sleeps between us, but am I right in thinking this isn't a great idea?

I was wondering about looking for a bedside cot second hand, but wonder if it will be much use now he is 8 months. We are in no rush to get him out of our bed. We like our family sleep time

I wouldn't bother with a bedside cot tbh. my DS is nearly 7mo and we have taken the bedside cot down after he started rolling and shuffling around it, bashing his head all the time. Also, if he starts pulling himself up, a bedside cot isn't very safe.

Could you use a normal cot/cotbed and remove one side and push it right up against your bed?

you could put your mattress on the floor with a soft thing next to it in case of falls. me and DD share a souble and i've ordered a single for DH so we got more room. i am also using a lindam rail still but plan to remove when single arrives as risk of pulling up and toppling i think

What about a travel with an extra mattress? That's what we used in our room until DS was about 9mo, and at 2.5 we still use it for holidays/trips to the parents.

We are using a normal cotbed with one side taken off for our 22 month old and it works perfectly fine. The matress is actually on the second highest setting but she is smart enough not to lean over it.

I just converted my normal cot into a bedside one. I found it useful because DS had his own space. From about a year he didn't cuddle up to me any more but preferred to sleep in his own space in the bed/cot - now at 18 months I have just got a mattress for his room and he sleeps some nights on that, some nights in my bed, I move between the two as well so sometimes I end up with him in his bed.
