Sleep

how many hours sleep for 6 and 8 yr olds?

Just reevaluating whether my bedtimes are excessively early. Ds2 is 6 and still waking often between 6 and 6.30, which is far too early for us! He goes to bed at 7.30, wondering if I need to knock it back to 8. His elder brother however goes to bed 15 mins later and I wouldn't say he is getting too much sleep!
So quick poll would be appreciated.

mine are 6 and almost 8, they sleep from 7.30 to 7.30 most nights (apart from summer holidays when they usually go to bed an hour or so later)

forgot to add, they used to wake earlier, especially on brighter morning, so I got them digital clocks (the type with glowing digits). They are not allowed up until the first number on the clock says 7 (for 6yr old)(with 7yr old I can give a specific time to)

knickknack
I have spent the last 6 years fantasising about 7.30am starts...!
I don't know. ds2 does often seem tired and grumpy, why he won't just sleep a bit longer is a mystery to me...

my 7yo ds sleeps from around 9pm - 7am.
I don't think he went to sleep until 1am this morning, although I was unaware until 12.50am that he was still awake.

I have the same system knickknack, it works fairly well but often ds2 wakes me when he gets up to go to the toilet. And sometimes he is just awake too long and gets bored waiting for 7am...

8pm - 8am for DS1. He is 8.5yrs and up until 2 yrs ago he used to get up everyday at 5.30am. [exhausted emoticon] I don't know how it happened but I have to wake him up in the morning, something I never thought would happen.

DS (the 7yr old) keeps a book at the side of the bed, he's allowed to read from 7am onwards, but not allowed to get up until 7.30

perhaps your DS needs less sleep, although if he seems tired/grumpty...who knows, tis a minefield!

It is a minefield! Trouble is ds1 and ds2 are so different in their sleep requirements -really ds2 could do with a later bedtime than ds1!
he is just about able to read to himself now so we are going to try the early morning reading idea - just not sure he will be able to read without humping about in the bed and waking us up! (he is directly above our bedroom...)
But perhaps there is hope, thecrackfox!

DS is 6 and goes to sleep between about 8 and 8:30. Often needs to be woken up at about 7:30.

So possibly he could do with going to bed a bit earlier but somehow it never seems to quite work out that way.

Mine are 5 - they go to bed at 7 and wake up 7am next morning - however they seem to wake up around 6 at the weekends! If i try them any later than 7.15pm bedtime, they get overtired and sleep really badly.
