19 month old unsettled at night. any advice?

My 19 month old has been a reasonable sleeper at night. Going to bed around 7pm and waking up at 6.30 am most days. He does stir at night but seemed to have no trouble getting himself back off. However he now seems to be waking a lot at night and needs reassurance. Once you have gone in tucked him in and said 'night night' off he goes. However, we are shattered with the disturbed nights now!

We have contemplated is he cold (put a heater in his room so it is about 20 degrees). Is he teething (tried calpol) and it has made no difference. We did move over to a duvet in September as he was undoing his grobags. However I am not convinced that this is why as he resettles once he knows you are there.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice?

prob a phase.
unless he really crys, could you see if he settles himself?
I don't think its uncommon for them to do this though.
HTH, very tiring for you, but will pass.

DS used to do this and it was an exhausting nightmare. Do not do what we did which was take him into our bed , he still sneaks in there now sometimes and he's 6!!! Rod for our own backs and all that. I would suggest letting him settle himself, unless he's hysterical obviously, otherwise he will get used to having you there in the night. Could be a separation anxiety thing which some go through at this age? Teething and temperature of room would also explain it but sounds like you've already checked those out.
Good Luck and HTH.

Yes, dd is 17 months and has started waking in the night again. If you google you will see it's common for them to do this around the 18 month stage. Have you tried giving him ibuprofen? This seemed to settle dd a bit because she's producing molars and Incisors as well.

I'm just hoping to ride it out really. I do feel tired this morning though and have to go to work now, so you have my sympathies.

thanks for the replies. I have swapped over to a bigger duvet and am hoping that it helps.

I did wonder whether it was a 'stage' and hope it will pass.......

my DD is 24 months in a few days time and as yet has only slept through the night twice!!!!!! :-) i am lucky if i get 4-5 hour stretch but most of the time im up and down. think ive just got into a routine of it now... but i know things need to change for both our sakes. I took a week off work recently and tried constantly returning her to her bed and shhh her i did this for a full week and saw no improvement so i have let her cry (4hrs was the longest) but i must admit i find it hard to let her. I think she a little young to understand sticker charts? any advice?
