Sleep

20 month old DS Suddenly started waking several times in the night screaming the house down

This has started since we returned from holiday a few weeks ago. Prior to that, DS would go to bed, have milk and a story and then get himself off to sleep and not wake until 6.30. However, since we've got back, he cries when we put him to bed, is up and down several times, crying before he goes to sleep and will wake screaming in the night. We've tried door open, door shut, light on, light off etc and I've left him for up to half an hour crying but as soon as we go to him he stops crying, gets into bed and wants us to stay with him until he's asleep.
The only real difference I can see is that when we were on holiday, he was in a cot in our room, wheras at home, he is in a bed in his own room....Help, we're all getting very tired and irritable now!!

has he got a special comforter that might help? have just suggested on another post, that to help DS get used to going to sleep without me, I got him a "special teddy off mummy" and revived his long-forgotten taggies blanket, which he took to bed at the beginning of the night.

does he spend time playing in his bedroom in the day with you, so he knows it's a happy place? does she have the same book every night? sounds like the change to routine has taken him back a few steps, so just wondering if there's anything you can do that you might have dropped out of his routine as he's got older that you can go back to to give him more security?
