If you live in Greater London, are pregnant and planning on sharing a bed at night with your baby, please read on!

Having a baby who settles at night is important to many parents. The Infant Sleep Study aims to understand why some babies acquire this ability by about 12 weeks of age, while others take longer. In particular, we want to understand whether infants learn to remain settled at night and what factors in the environment help them to learn.

If you choose to participate in this study, it will involve three short home visits by a researcher and keeping a simple diary of your baby's behaviour for a few days. In order to accurately measure how your baby is sleeping through the night, during two of these visits we will set up a small video camera where your baby sleeps, to record for two consecutive nights.

All personal details will be held in the strictest of confidence and this study has been approved by the Riverside Research Ethics Committee.

Your participation will add to the scientific understanding of baby sleep and waking and, we hope, help future parents who wish their babies to settle at night.

On completion of the study you will receive £100 in high street gift vouchers as recognition for your time and contribution.

If you would like more information, please contact [email protected].

We look forward to hearing from you!
