My one year old waking stupidly early - what to do?

My one year old DS has only been sleeping through the night for a couple of months, but he will only sleep from 7 to about 5. If we're lucky, it's 5.30, it we're unlucky, it's 4.45. I know loads of people encounter this with their babies, and I've read quite a few posts on this, but still feel stuck about what to do!Sometimes we leave him to wail for a bit, but he rarely goes back to sleep, and then just gets himself into a state. Arrgh. Just when I was rejoicing at getting full nights' sleep again, I'm now getting completely knackered again being woken this early all the time. Any ideas about what to do most welcome!

He'll always have a breastfeed then, but I don't think he's starving. I think it's more that he really only seems to need 10 hours sleep! But I feel that somehow I've got to stretch him to 11 ...
