Sleep

Have you slept on the floor in DC's room - and if so how long did you do it for?

I've taken to sleeping on DS's floor on a blow up bed, for the last week (well apart from thurs, when he was at mums, fri when I forgot the pump, and sat when I zonked in my bed)

anyhow, for the most part it's going well - the first night (last monday) he played merry hell at 4am for an hour & half saying 'want sleep mummy bed' - but I kept calm and kept putting him back in his bed - after an hour & half he got the message! the second night he woke again at half 4, but this time he stayed in his bed and wanted to 'hold hands' so we did after about 20 mins or so he drifted off again. third night was bliss - nothing until 6.45!!!

but fri/sat when I wasn't in there he did his usual in with me about 2.30 am ish.

while on the one hand I don't want to go backward - as he seems to have 'terrors' and want his dummy back in, like when he was a NB and I was doing the 'dummy runs' I likewise don't want him coming in with me anymore cos I well - basically don't sleep when he's in the bed, and after 5 months of it it's beyond now!

so how long did you sleep on the floor for/should I keep doing it for? - I think once I stop tbh he'll go back to coming in my bed and then we'll have the hissy fit we had a few months back when things were at their worst.

i did for about a year - but probably different by the sounds of it he was younger (9mo - 20mo approx), I moved to the mattress on his floor when he woke, I feed him and we both fell asleep - so basically co-sleeping but out of H's way.

I don't have a H to worry about & DS is now 2.5 - tbh i've let it go on for as long as I have as at the time I v v v badly needed sleep (he was literally not sleeping until 10pm at night, then awake half of it so I wasn't having any breaks at all.)

hope I don't have to do it for a year. have tried rewards & stickers for getting him to sleep in his own bed all night. He does well until anywhere between 2am-4.30 am. I wouldn't even mind a 6.30 am if I got all night alone to ahve a good snooze!

I no longer have a H to worry about either - as I said I think it is different because mine was younger (he is now 2y8m).

What about having him on a mattress in your room - that way he isn't in the bed with you, but has the reassurance of you being there.

well, mon night he woke up as I was setting the bed up in his room at midnight, then at half 6 in his own bed so getting there, last night he went right around, stirred at half 4 ish but didn't come into me. then came in at 6.15, so not too bad.

at least I wasn't on the floor last night - managed to trick him into thinking I was thou - fingers crossed it carry's on - 3 full nights sleep - woohoo! I feel almost human!

same again 6.15 - is it possible I might get my bed back even if I do have to get up at 6am!

We didn't have separate beds - we put a double futon mattress on the floor so the attending parent was comfortable too!
