Sleep

16 month old 5am waking

DD1 has started waking at 5am and as I'm 32 weeks pregnant it is getting exhausting. She has generally been a good nighttime sleeper but has never napped much in the day. Currently she goes to bed about 7pm and has one nap in the day for about an hour. We've had both sets of grandparents staying recently so wonder if that has affected her. Have used some of the Baby Whisperer suggestions in the past so am thinking about trying the wake to sleep tactic. Anyone have any experience of this or any other suggestions?

Sorry to say that 10 hours sounds fairly normal to me (!). Though many years a go I had one 5.30am waker follwed by a 4.30am up for the daydc! I really feel for you.

Presumably you have done the ususal? Blackout blind; put her to bed in something warm as it's chilly at that time in the morning and being cold can wake them up; give her a drink of water and shut the door on her ?

Ignore her until a more reasonable time.

Both DH and I were horrified when DD started waking up at 6 AM and ignored her until she went back to sleep. She now wakes up between 8 AM and 9 AM.

Alternatively, put her to bed at a later time.

Hello Cote
How old is your child? Ignoring only worked when mine was younger. The older they get the harder it becomes and once awake at 5.30am they are ready to get up and going back to sleep doesn't work and if not picked up get hysterical, as they don't understand why not getting up and they had about 10 hours sleep already. Just found it doesn't work anymore ignoring them.
