My ds is 11.5 months. He is sleeping okay, wakes twice for bf. The thing is, it has always been me that puts him to sleep, and with a feed. He doesn't have to be fully asleep but the feed does make him nicely conked - he has never gone down tired but awake, he just shouts or gets up again. I'm 100% fine with the situation BUT it has to change. We are going to a wedding reception next month and my DP wants his mother to put DS to bed. I cannot argue with this as he will be 13 months old, really old enough to be put to bed by him Granny, but I'm not sure how it's going to work. I will have to try expressing but neither of us gets on with it very well. He will be rocked if he's already well on the way but not otherwise. And this is after a feed. So has anyone else made a similar transition successfully? We have a month to try stuff out! I suppose the first step is for DP to try putting him to bed with a bottle but wondered what other suggestions people had? Thanks!

yes, you definitely need a title!

I'm sorry I have no experience as I have never had to leave my LO alone (only 7.5 months). I think getting DP to put him down to bed is a good start. You may also want to do a practise run with Granny so you can be sure it will work that day.

Also what are your plans re breastfeeding. Are you planning to continue bf for longer? If not, then you might just try to start cutting out the feeds. But that's really up to you...

Thanks - mmm, Granny doesn't live close so twice in a month might not be possible but it's a good point. I was planning to continue, thinking he might naturally cut his own out. I wasn't really planning to do anything that involved crying and he doesn't really go to sleep any other way. It would be great if he did and I'm not really planning on doing it past 18 months (? current no-particular-reason guess) so may as well start now I suppose. I mean, I really enjoy giving this feed but he is very dependent on it and it does rather limit who can put him to bed.

definitely get your dp to put him to bed; i ahve made the mistake of always being the one to put my dd to bed; she is now nearly 2 and there's no chance of her being put to bed by anyone else. We will have to bite the bullet at some stage but you should defintely try it sooner rather than later.
good luck!

Yes it's probably one of those situations that's well worth being thrown into while we still have time!!
