Sleep

4 month old naps

Please tell me I'm not the only one that has a baby who isn't great at napping?

My daughter only sleeps about 30 mins max then wakes up smiling like she's had hours of sleep. I think this is contributing to rubbish sleep through the night but could be wrong.

I've tried different things, in her basket, in her crib, sleeping bag, blanket, white noise, different settings etc and it's still the same.

I know every baby is different but curious how other babies the same age are doing Smile

I can't get my four month old to nap at all, other than on the move or on me post-feed. And even then she wakes up after exactly 30 mins, even though those are meant to be surefire ways to guarantee a longer nap Hmm A couple of things I have read whilst frantically researching napping (to no avail) suggest that many (not all) babies can't connect daytime sleep cycles below about six months and suggest it's not worth trying to fix short naps until after that age - more short naps being the suggested temporary fix though as I can't bring myself to go on more than two walks a day we are stuck with not enough daytime sleep for now (and I'm sure it's affecting nighttime sleep here also)

As much as I'm sorry you're going through the same thing, I'm also pleased it's not just me!

We're the same with exactly 30 mins, being on me after a feed or in the pram or car! Thanks for sharing your research, makes me feel a bit better it might get easier in the future ๐Ÿ˜ด nights have been a bit broken for us as well and I'm certain it's because of the rubbish day sleep.

We can do this!!

We can! I keep telling myself the day she will nap will come, refuse to believe otherwise!

Also just to add, if night sleep is a bit rubbish atm it might be because of the four month sleep regression. Mine has always been a rubbish napper, even as as a newborn, but night sleep has only recently taken a turn for the worse and I'm sure it's the sleep regression - supposedly lasts 2-6 weeks for most babies and i am counting the days!

Dd1 was a cat napper. She finally started napping over an hour consistently at 11 months! It's an absolute pain in tbe arse as you just can't get anything done. I feel for you.

Just started a thread on this! My little boys is the same.
Was a great night sleeper until recently but now wakes for a 2hr party in the night!!!

My friend who is a sleep consultant says he should have 3 naps by now and a long one over lunch but he canโ€™t do it. Yesterday I managed to shush him back to sleep but I also have a 5 year old to homeschool so not easy!!

Totally normal at that age, the only way I got a longer nap was walking past the 30 minute point in the pram. Just means they might have 4 or 5 naps in the day rather than 3.
Iโ€™d still try to stick to a rough routine eg sleep-feed-play-nap but you just go through lots of cycles.

Thank you everyone. It's still happening so trying to just accept its normal. Just a bit worried about development wise. I've got a toddler so not moaning about getting peace or that I genuinely wonder if it's good for her having short naps.

We do follow a sleep, feed, play routine throughout x

Hi, my baby is 4 months too - she has only 2 naps each day. Nap 1 is around 90 minutes and nap 2 is exactly 40 minutes.

@theresaplaceforus I'd take that - 90 mins sounds like a dream!!

Catnapper here too! DS is 12 weeks and until a couple of weeks ago was a fantastic napper. At the minute heโ€™s really fighting it and will only sleep on me or in the pram. I just keep repeating that everything is a phase! So no advice for you OP, just solidarity ๐Ÿ˜‚
