Baby won't sleep past 5am?

Hi everyone, just after a bit of advice!

My 9 month old won't sleep past 5am regardless of his bed time e.g 6pm or 8pm etc.

I can't figure out why he keeps waking at 5 and obviously it's amazing he sleeps all the way through (no night feeds) he wakes up whingy and is tired an hour later so I know he's not getting enough sleep.

If he always woke up after 10 hours for example I would just think that's the amount of sleep he needs at night but he doesn't - it's 5am regardless of when he went to bed.

He's not hungry when he wakes, his room
Is warm, nappy not too wet, his white noise is blaring so he isn't being disturbed by any noises like a neighbour going to work etc. Even if I put him in bed with me to try and get an extra hour he protests. If I swing vigorously in his rocking chair I could possibly get him back off to sleep for a bit but I've rocked so hard the arm has fallen off and is not a very practical solution...

I aim for 2 good naps a day - 9am and 1pm ish but because he wakes so early he sometimes ends up having 3/4 naps a day. I don't want to start putting him to bed much earlier and encourage him getting up at 5, 6/6.30 would be much nicer!!

Especially as he starts nursery soon and at the moment would be having his first nap of the day at the time I should be dropping him off.

He's not great at self settling - we seem to have lost this in the 8 month sleep regression but is happy enough to be cuddled to sleep and goes off in about 10 mins.

Just wondered if anyone had been in the same position? Should I keep him awake in the mornings until a 9am nap time although he would be an over tired mess? Just I leave him crying in his room until 6am a least? I would just accept the early mornings as parenting life but I think he (and I) would be a lot happier with another hour or two of sleep.

Thank you in advance.

Is he thirsty?

My second was an early riser. Nothing changed it. He's 8 now and still up earlier than most, but not 5 am you'll be pleased to hear!

My 4 month old has just started doing this and it is painful.
My 2 year old has just gone through many a waking at 5am phase, which was also hard. No solutions here I'm afraid, just understanding.
It sorts itself out eventually I think...

Well, if you put them to bed later it apparently takes up to two weeks for enough sleep pressure to build to change the wake time, so you have to persevere with it. I'm not sure if that'd work with one so young though. Ours did this and we just rolled with it.

My 13 month old is the same. Watching in case anyone has any suggestions.

I came here to say this. Stick with a later bedtime for a couple weeks, and maybe try and reduce his daytime sleep a little. The days where he's having 4 naps are they short catnaps or longer ones?

Yeah sorry ....ds was like this til he was about 4 ! We are both early riders and rarely sleep in til after 7 am.
It sucks and in my experience no wizardry with naps or curtains solves it .
Sometimes he would snooze after a bottle and a cuddle in bed with me , but by the time he was a toddler we were up !
I used to get all my laundry done and he would watch thomas and friends. I dont believe I am saying this but ....I miss those days

Thank you - we have the occasional day where he can only manage 30 min naps, like an alarm clock going off in his head! But usually he naps 45 mins - 1.5 hours on the days we get away with 2/3 naps
