Self soothing

Hi there,
I've spent 3 weeks encouraging my 6 months old son to self soothe/get himself to sleep. I started this to respond to the 4 month regression. I'm at the point where I lie him down drowsy and after a bit of chatting and whining for 5-10 mins he'll suck his dummy and fall asleep although I do hold his hands as his arms tend to flail around when he's tired. The problem is he's no longer getting that initial deep sleep and waking every 45 mins in the first part of the night, he's also snuck in an extra night feed. I'm starting to think maybe it isn't for him but I don't want to undo my hard work to get to this point. Has anyone had any experience of this? DD was cuddled to sleep until she was 2 and I'm hoping to avoid this again

I'd keep at it a bit longer. They lose their startle reflex around that age and become much less flaily. Then you can slowly (over the course of a few nights/weeks) stop holding his hand and move further away while he settles .

Thanks for the encouragement, definitely looking forward to less flaily times!
